Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, the 13-year-old Texas boy who captured America’s heart during President Trump’s State of the Union address earlier this month, continues his extraordinary mission to be sworn in by 1,000 law enforcement agencies — and he’s almost there.

DJ, who is battling terminal brain cancer, was honored by Trump in the House chamber and sworn in as an honorary Secret Service agent. That moment wasn’t just ceremonial — it marked a milestone in DJ’s ongoing journey to show the world what courage, hope, and patriotism look like.

On Friday, DJ was sworn in yet again — this time by the beloved and no-nonsense Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd of Florida. During the ceremony, Sheriff Judd had a clear message for the young hero: “At 18, you come back, you move to Florida. You come to work for me.”

The crowd laughed as Judd added, “Register to vote because you know I’m going to need some votes by that time,” to which DJ replied without hesitation, “Trust me, if you want to say something, all you have to do is tell me to say it.”

So far, DJ has been sworn in by an astonishing 914 agencies — including the Secret Service — and is well on his way to smashing the Guinness World Record he’s pursuing.

But this is no vanity tour. DJ was given less than five months to live after being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018. He’s now survived more than a dozen surgeries as part of a research study, defying every expectation. Through it all, his mission hasn’t wavered: to make the world a better place.

“I do everything now to try and make the world a better place and just to use his story to help somebody out,” said his father, Theodis Daniel. “I don’t know how many people we’ve been able to touch with our story who may have given up.”

DJ’s strength and outlook are nothing short of inspiring. “The fight is only harder if you believe that, so you always have to stay faithful and positive,” he said.

Even with his health battles, DJ has managed to earn numerous “Keys to the City” and holds the record for the most “proclamation days” awarded to one individual — a testament to his widespread impact across the country.

As for what’s next? DJ and his family will be traveling to other states in the coming months, determined to hit that 1,000-agency mark. And he’s doing it all with a higher calling in mind.

“I’ll keep going until my gas tank runs out, and that’s when God calls you home,” DJ said. “The craziest thing is on my 11th brain surgery, God told me I was one of his angels and I’m doing God’s work. On my twelfth brain surgery, he gave me my wings, but he told me I’m going to take these back until you graduate the school called life.”

That kind of faith, courage, and purpose is rare — and DJ Daniel embodies it in full. As he continues this incredible mission, he’s not just making history. He’s showing the country what strength and service really look like.
