AOC Tried to Sound Smart at an Alabama Rally — Invented a Word Instead

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez traveled all the way to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend to lecture Southerners about voting rights — and couldn't even get through her big dramatic metaphor without inventing new vocabulary. During the "All Roads Lead to the South" rally on Saturday, AOC declared that what Republicans thought was the "final blow" to their opponents was actually just the "opening silo."

The opening silo. Not salvo. Silo. You know, the big round grain storage thing. Even spellcheck knows the difference, but our girl from the Bronx does not.

Let's set the scene here, because it's almost too perfect. AOC stood behind bulletproof glass — because apparently Montgomery, Alabama is a war zone now — and attempted to deliver a rousing call to arms about Democratic resilience and political pushback. She wanted to channel Churchill. She channeled a farm equipment catalog instead.

Steve Guest posted the video clip on social media, and it spread like wildfire. Because of course it did. This is the same woman who once stared at a garbage disposal like it was alien technology. The same congresswoman who thought "occupied territory" was something you say about a district in Queens. Every time she opens her mouth without a teleprompter, conservatives get a gift.

Matt Whitlock jumped in to hammer her comments on gerrymandering and racial gerrymandering bans, which were apparently also part of her rambling sermon to the Alabama faithful. Because when you're AOC, why mangle just one topic when you can mangle several?

Here's what kills me. She flew to the Deep South to tell people how to vote. She stood behind bulletproof glass like she was addressing the UN General Assembly. She wound up for her big rhetorical moment — the one the speechwriters probably practiced in the mirror — and she said "silo." Out loud. On camera. In front of a crowd that was supposed to be inspired.

As Twitchy noted, the clip went viral almost immediately, and for good reason. It's not just that she used the wrong word. It's that she used the wrong word while trying to sound like the smartest person in the room. That's the AOC brand in a nutshell — maximum confidence, minimum vocabulary.

We've been told for years that this woman is the future of the Democratic Party. The young, dynamic, social-media-savvy face of progressive politics. And she can't tell the difference between a military term and a grain tower.

If this is the future of the left, we're going to be just fine.
