California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer decided to stroll into Leimert Park in Los Angeles to do a little community outreach this week, and the community reached right back — by telling him to get lost. The billionaire climate activist was confronted, heckled, and ultimately escorted out by California Highway Patrol after black voters made it crystal clear he wasn't welcome in their neighborhood.

Nothing says "party of the people" quite like needing a police escort to flee a community you claim to champion.

The encounter, caught on video and going viral this weekend, shows a protester shouting at Steyer, "I betta not catch you over here with those devil blue eyes!" According to American Wire News reporter Sierra Marlee, the confrontation went down near the Ora Cafe in Leimert Park, a historically black neighborhood in South LA. Steyer had reportedly been trying to canvass the area with backing from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters union.

But the residents weren't buying what the billionaire was selling. Not even a little.

This is the same Tom Steyer who once called the black community "the moral leader of the United States." Apparently the moral leaders have reviewed his application and stamped it REJECTED.
