Kaitlyn Tracey, a 33-year-old Canadian national, walked up to a teenage girl on the Point Pleasant boardwalk in New Jersey over Fourth of July weekend and slapped her across the face. The kid's crime? Wearing sweatpants with "Trump" and "ICE" printed on them.

On August 4th, an immigration judge in Texas ordered Tracey deported to Canada.

The surveillance footage tells the whole story. Tracey approached the group of teens, swung at the girl, made contact with her face and body, then flipped off the victim as a male bystander pulled her away. She fled the scene. Police caught up with her and hit her with charges including endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, harassment, and obstruction.

Here's where the story gets interesting. Tracey entered the United States on a visa back in April 2024. That visa expired on September 6, 2024. She never left. She'd been living illegally in the country for nearly two years when she decided to assault a minor on camera over a pair of sweatpants.

So she wasn't just a violent lunatic with impulse-control issues. She was a violent lunatic with impulse-control issues who was also an illegal visa overstay.

Tracey pled guilty to one count of simple assault, a misdemeanor, at a criminal court hearing in Toms River. She attended the hearing by phone — from a Texas ICE lockup. The judge sentenced her to one day in jail, with time served from her earlier stint in Ocean County.

A DHS spokesperson confirmed the deportation order to Fox News Digital. "She overstayed her visa and failed to depart," the spokesperson said. "She received full due process and was ordered removed on Aug. 4 by an immigration judge to her home country of Canada. ICE will return her home as soon as possible."

The spokesperson added context that lands harder than any editorial could: "Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, ICE is targeting the worst of the worst. Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S."

The usual objection writes itself — she only slapped somebody, it's a misdemeanor, deportation is disproportionate. Except it isn't. She overstayed a visa by two years, assaulted a child on camera, and racked up four charges including endangering a minor. The immigration judge didn't invent jurisdiction. She handed it to them.

This story went viral when it happened because it was a perfect distillation of everything wrong with Trump Derangement Syndrome. A grown woman crossing a boardwalk to physically attack a teenager because of what was printed on her pants. Not a protest. Not a confrontation that escalated. A stranger walking up and hitting a kid.

The sentencing was a slap on the wrist — one day, time served. The deportation is where the actual consequence lives. Tracey's back in Canada now, with a criminal record in the United States and an immigration ban that makes her boardwalk days permanently over.

Two years of overstaying a visa, and the thing that finally got ICE's attention was a viral video of her hitting a teenager in patriotic sweatpants. If she'd kept her hands to herself, she might still be here illegally and nobody would know.

That's not a cautionary tale about immigration enforcement. That's a cautionary tale about self-control.
