Conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley walked into Ceuta, the tiny Spanish territory on the coast of North Africa, with a camera crew and walked out with a police escort after a man identified as a Moroccan migrant allegedly threatened him with a knife. The 29-minute video of what he found there has now racked up more than 8 million views on X and over 900,000 on YouTube.
Turns out when you actually show people what's happening instead of describing it through a press release, they pay attention.
Ceuta — population 84,000 — was overrun last week when 69,500 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave. That's not a typo. A city of 84,000 absorbed a wave nearly equal to its own population. According to reports many of the migrants have voluntarily returned to Morocco, but thousands of migrants remain in Ceuta.
Shirley documented what he saw on the ground: shuttered businesses, looting concerns, and a military presence that he described as "losing power." He posted on social media that "Spain had literally opened their gates upon arrival for the Moroccan migrants" and that "Ceuta had now effectively shut down due to looting concerns."

The part where Spanish police had to escort Shirley and his crew back to their vehicle after the knife threat wasn't some dramatic flourish for content.
Shrley's bluntest assessment: "Now thousands of military age men are set to spread throughout Europe due to one country's failure."
The European response has been exactly what you'd expect — a strongly worded letter. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez that "from this incident, it is clear that we must do more to further strengthen our borders." More. Further. Strengthen. Three adverbs, zero enforcement mechanisms.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who actually does things about her border, wasn't as diplomatic. She called the situation "a concrete threat to the security of Europe's borders" and Italy suspended its Schengen arrangement with Spain, reinstating border checks. Finland, Denmark, and the Czech Republic have backed similar suspension calls.
So one country in the EU is actively sealing itself off from another EU member because that member can't — or won't — control a land border the size of a shopping mall parking lot. That's where we are.
President Trump weighed in on Fox News, saying "It's terrible. Remember that picture. That's going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in." He followed up on Truth Social: "DON'T LET OUR COUNTRY BE DESTROYED. VOTE REPUBLICAN, AND BE PROUD OF THE U.S.A."

The left-wing critique of Shirley's video will be predictable: he's a conservative influencer, he went looking for trouble, he's "amplifying fear." Which is an interesting way to describe a man who filmed what was in front of him, got threatened with a knife for doing it, and needed a police escort to leave safely. If the footage is misleading, it should be easy to send a CNN crew to shoot a more flattering version. Nobody's booking that flight.
The relationship between Rabat and Madrid was already strained before 69,500 people walked across the border. Now the rest of Europe is watching a Schengen member get walled off by its own allies, a conservative YouTuber's footage is doing what legacy outlets wouldn't, and the official EU response is a letter asking Spain to please try harder.
