The White House Council of Economic Advisers put a number on the Democratic Socialists of America's immigration platform this week: between $440 billion and $613 billion over the next decade. That's the price tag for granting amnesty, expanding Temporary Protected Status, and opening federal benefits to the illegal immigrant population Democrats spent four years waving across the border.
Their midterm pitch is "affordability."
The CEA report, which Fox News obtained exclusively, breaks the math into pieces that are hard to ignore. Expanded federal benefits alone — Medicaid, SNAP, housing assistance — would cost between $361 billion and $475 billion over ten years. Annual Medicaid spending hits up to $40 billion. SNAP adds $3.6 billion to $4.7 billion per year. Federal housing assistance tacks on another $2.3 billion to $3 billion annually. These aren't projections based on hypothetical future migration. They're based on the illegal immigrant population already here, whose lifetime fiscal cost the CEA pegs at $166,716 per person — totaling between $1.4 trillion and $1.9 trillion.
The broader DSA agenda, which includes the immigration provisions alongside the rest of their socialist wish list, carries an estimated ten-year cost of $49 trillion. That works out to roughly $355,000 per American household. The White House launched an interactive webpage at whitehouse.gov/socialism/ to walk voters through the numbers.
White House Spokeswoman Lauren Bis framed the contrast in terms the campaign trail hasn't been subtle about: "President Trump supercharged ICE to remove criminal illegal aliens from our communities, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members and terrorists."
She went further: "Meanwhile, radical Democrats want to go back to their extreme open border policies and grant amnesty to the illegal aliens they released into our communities. Not only will these radical policies make America less safe, but they will cost the American taxpayer billions of dollars."
The enforcement side of the ledger has its own numbers. The Trump administration estimates between $227 billion and $287 billion in taxpayer savings from current immigration enforcement over the next decade. CBP reports a 73% uptick in drug interdiction through August 2026 compared to fiscal year 2024. The administration has gone 16 consecutive months without releasing a single illegal immigrant into the interior. Over 250,000 visas have been revoked, with more than 175,000 of those pulled by the State Department alone.
Democrats running on "affordability" in November might want to explain how $613 billion in new spending on people who entered the country illegally makes groceries cheaper. The DSA platform doesn't just expand benefits — it reverses the enforcement mechanisms producing those savings. Amnesty replaces deportation. Expanded TPS replaces visa revocation. Every dollar saved gets spent twice.
Fox News reached out to the Democratic Socialists of America for comment on the CEA findings.
They didn't respond.
The net cost of the DSA immigration plan, even after accounting for some economic activity from legalized workers, lands between $79 billion and $139 billion over the decade. That's the optimistic version — the one that assumes amnesty produces taxpayers instead of benefit recipients. The CEA ran both scenarios. Neither one made the "affordability" message work.
$355,000 per household. That's the platform.
