The Massachusetts Teachers Association — the biggest union in the state, the outfit that bargains for the grownups standing in front of your children all day — just elected a new vice president named Deb Gesualdo. She's a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who has publicly declared that the United States is a "fascist oligarchy." So that's reassuring.

Gesualdo takes office in July alongside the union's brand-new president, Matt Bach. And before anyone says "come on, Bob, you're cherry-picking one cranky tweet," let's go to the tape. Because the beautiful thing about this story is that we don't have to invent a single thing. The lady wrote it all down herself.

Exhibit A, on the country that signs the paychecks of every public-school teacher she represents: "beyond me that there's still people who think we can legislate our way out of the fascist oligarchy that is the United States." A fascist oligarchy. The same fascist oligarchy that's going to be cutting her a pension check someday. Bold strategy.

Exhibit B, on the concept of countries having borders at all. According to Gesualdo, borders are a "construct of colonizers" that are "meant to control and exploit workers." So the line on the map that lets the United States exist — the one that funds her union, her school, and the National Education Association she answers to — is just a colonizer scam to keep the proletariat down. We'd ask what she thinks should replace borders, but we already know the answer rhymes with "open."

And for the grand finale, a little something she likes to post: "No war but class war." Nothing says "I'm a calming, neutral presence for your eleven-year-old" quite like quoting the greatest hits of the Communist Manifesto fan club. It gets better, if "better" is the word we're looking for.

Back in 2023, Gesualdo helped push through an MTA resolution that accused Israel of carrying out a "genocidal assault" in Gaza. Because when you think "the people who should be issuing official foreign-policy declarations about the Middle East," you naturally think of the folks who are supposed to be teaching long division in Worcester.

She also signed a letter demanding the NEA stop using the Anti-Defamation League's Holocaust education materials. The signers' objection? That teaching kids about the Holocaust using ADL materials amounts to — and we are not making this up — "Zionist supremacy." Let that one marinate. A union official wants to yank Holocaust education out of the classroom, and the bad guys in this story are apparently the people who made the Holocaust lessons.

You can't make this stuff up. Well, you can — it's just that nobody had to, because she did.

Now, here's the part where the union's defenders rush in to tell us this is all a big misunderstanding. Except the MTA was asked to comment for the story, and the MTA declined. The outgoing president, Max Page, was asked whether some antisemitic imagery floating around the union was a problem, and he wouldn't even say it was. Total radio silence from the people who are supposed to be the adults in the room.

And this isn't a fluke hire, either. Every single MTA president since 2014 has come up through the same hard-left progressive caucus — the cleverly named "Educators for a Democratic Union." Gesualdo is a member. Page was too. The "fascist oligarchy" crowd hasn't just gotten a foot in the door; they own the building, they changed the locks, and they're charging your kid's teacher rent to stand inside it.

Here's the thing the union really, really doesn't want you to put together. The MTA is an affiliate of the National Education Association — the largest labor union in the entire country. This isn't some fringe book club meeting in a basement in Cambridge. This is the on-ramp. The people who write "no war but class war" on the internet at night are spending their days deciding what gets bargained for, what gets taught, and which grownups get hired to spend six hours a day with your children.

So go ahead and ask the next teacher conference night who, exactly, is running the union that runs the teacher. The answer is a socialist who thinks your country is fascist, your borders are a colonizer plot, and your kid's Holocaust lesson is the real problem. Parents of Massachusetts, the homework's been graded. You're getting an F — and they marked it in red, white, and blue.
