The Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary results came in on Tuesday, and socialist streamer Hasan Piker handled it about the way you'd expect a guy who once said America "deserved" the 9/11 attacks to handle a minor electoral setback.

He lost it on camera.

David Crowley edged out Francesca Hong, the far-left insurgent candidate backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, in a race that Piker and his online army had poured their energy into. Hong had even planned to stream with Piker during her campaign — a decision that tells you everything about who she thought her base was. The result sent Piker into a full meltdown on his livestream.

The quotes are something. As Hong began trailing in the returns, Piker declared it was time to "outlaw Thanksgiving and outlaw boomers." That's not a joke. That's what the man said on camera, to an audience of tens of thousands, as a serious reaction to a primary election. He then warned that the "knives will be out" for the Democratic establishment that backed Crowley over his preferred candidate.

This is the same Hasan Piker who has built one of the largest political streaming audiences on the internet. Millions of young viewers tune in to watch him explain why capitalism is evil from inside his multi-million-dollar Los Angeles home. When his candidate loses a state primary by a narrow margin, the revolutionary rhetoric doesn't exactly hold up.

The Wisconsin race was close, and by some accounts the process itself was messy — Vespa noted "wild turns, unreal delays, and overall incompetence from election staff" throughout the night. But none of that explains a grown man demanding the abolition of a national holiday because his preferred socialist didn't win a primary.

What's actually interesting here isn't Piker. It's the fracture he represents. The Democratic Party's progressive wing genuinely believed Francesca Hong was going to waltz through this primary. When she didn't, the reaction wasn't introspection. It was rage at their own party. Piker blamed the national media. Others blamed the establishment. Nobody blamed the candidate or the platform.

Bernie Sanders supporters went through the same cycle in 2016 and again in 2020 — fury at the primary process, conspiracies about the DNC, and eventually a grudging vote for the nominee. The question now is whether Hong's supporters, fueled by streamers like Piker, will do the same or sit it out.

The far left keeps running into the same wall. Democratic primary voters in purple states like Wisconsin aren't as radical as say the Democrat voters are in New York or California. The streamers and the DSA endorsements generate clicks and donations, but when actual voters show up, they pick the less extreme option. It happened with Bernie. It happened with Hong.
